About Tarapith Temple
Tara Maa of Tarapith, a fierce form of Goddess Kali, is one of the most revered deities in Bengal. Depicted with two hands, adorned with snakes and sacred threads, and with Lord Shiva resting on her lap, she symbolizes both destruction and compassion. The temple, associated with daily rituals and offerings, is a powerful center of Tantric worship. In iconography, Tara is shown standing upon Shiva, wearing a garland of skulls, holding a sword, skull, and blue lotus, with a fierce yet protective expression. Her alternate form, Ugratara (Mahanil Saraswati), symbolizes ultimate liberation and the destruction of fear and ignorance.
