Bahula Shakti Peeth Temple, Bardhaman – History, Significance & Visitor Guide

Bahula Shaktipeeth Temple is one of the sacred 51 Shakti Peethas of India, located at Ketugram near Katwa in Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal, on the banks of the Ajay River. According to Hindu mythology, the left arm (Bahu) of Goddess Sati fell here, making this a highly revered pilgrimage site. The Goddess is worshipped as Maa Bahula, while Lord Shiva is worshipped as Bhairav Bhiruk.

The temple is known for its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful traditional architecture, and spiritual significance. Devotees believe that Maa Bahula fulfills sincere prayers, and no devotee returns empty-handed. The sanctum houses Maa Bahula along with Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya, symbolizing prosperity, protection, and divine blessings.

History & Significance

According to the legend of the Shakti Peethas, after Goddess Sati sacrificed herself at King Daksha’s yajna, Lord Shiva wandered with her body in grief. Lord Vishnu used the Sudarshan Chakra to divide Sati’s body into 51 parts to restore cosmic balance. The left arm fell at Ketugram, giving rise to Bahula Shakti Peeth.
