About Tarakeswar Shrabani Mela

Every year during the holy month of Shraban (July–August), lakhs of devotees undertake the sacred Tarakeswar Shrabani Mela in West Bengal. Pilgrims, known as Jal Jatris, collect holy Ganga water from Nimai Tirtha Ghat, Baidyabati, and other ghats before walking nearly 40 km barefoot to offer it to Lord Taraknath (Shiva) at the famous Tarakeswar Temple in Hooghly.

Devotees believe that offering Ganga water during Shraban brings blessings, peace, prosperity, and spiritual fulfillment. The journey is one of Bengal’s most significant religious pilgrimages.
