His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896–1977) was the Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). He is widely recognized as one of the world’s most influential spiritual teachers. Born as Abhay Charan De in Kolkata, India, he dedicated his life to spreading the teachings of Lord Krishna. He also introduced millions to the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.

Inspired by his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, Prabhupada accepted the mission of sharing Vedic knowledge with the world. The Journey to the West

In 1965, Srila Prabhupada sailed alone to New York City aboard a cargo ship. He carried only a small trunk of translated books and about 40 Indian rupees. Although the journey was challenging, his faith never wavered.

Just one year later, in 1966, he founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in New York. What began in a small Manhattan storefront soon became a worldwide spiritual movement. Today, ISKCON has temples, educational institutions, farm communities, and cultural centers across the globe.

Worldwide Spiritual Impact

Over the next 12 years, Srila Prabhupada traveled tirelessly around the world. He circled the globe 14 times and established 108 temples across six continents.
