Sri Sri Karunamoyee Kali Temple, Kolkata – History, Timings & Visitor Guide

Sri Sri Karunamoyee Kali Temple is one of the oldest and most revered Kali temples in Kolkata, located at 32, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Tollygunge (Haridevpur), Kolkata – 700082. Established by Nandadulal Roy Chowdhury of the renowned Sabarna Roy Chowdhury family, the temple is deeply associated with Bengal’s rich Shakta tradition.

According to temple history, the present idol of Maa Karunamoyee was consecrated on 6 November 1760 during Kali Puja after Nandadulal Roy Chowdhury received a divine vision instructing him to carve the deity from a sacred black touchstone found on the banks of the Adi Ganga. The original temple complex included a magnificent Navaratna temple and twelve Shiva temples. The current shrine was renovated and inaugurated in 1985, while preserving the ancient idol and Shiva Lingas.

The temple attracts thousands of devotees during Kali Puja, Diwali, Amavasya, and other Hindu festivals. Rituals such as Shraddha, Marriage, Upanayan, Batshorik, and other religious ceremonies are also performed here.
