About Kalna 108 Shiva Temple

The 108 Shiva Temple, also known as Nava Kailash Temple, is one of the most remarkable heritage temples in Ambika Kalna, Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal. Built in 1809 by Maharaja Tej Chandra Bahadur of the Bardhaman Raj, this unique temple complex is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is considered one of Bengal’s finest architectural masterpieces.

The complex consists of 108 identical ‘Aat-Chala’ (eight-roofed) temples arranged in two concentric circles. The outer ring has 74 temples, while the inner ring contains 34 temples, symbolizing the sacred number 108, which holds immense spiritual significance in Hinduism. Each shrine houses a Shiva Linga, with the inner circle featuring white marble Lingas and the outer circle displaying alternating black and white Lingas.

Surrounded by lush gardens, the temple offers a peaceful atmosphere for devotees, photographers, and history lovers. The complex is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and remains one of the most visited heritage attractions in West Bengal.
