Naihati Boro Maa Temple – The Famous 22-Foot Kali Idol in West Bengal

Naihati Boro Maa Temple is one of the most famous Kali temples in West Bengal, located just a 5-minute walk from Naihati Railway Station in North 24 Parganas. Dedicated to Goddess Raksha Kali (Smashan Kali), the temple is especially renowned during Kali Puja and Diwali, when thousands of devotees gather to seek the blessings of Boro Maa for protection, prosperity, and the destruction of evil.

The temple’s main attraction is the magnificent 22-foot-tall idol of Boro Maa, one of the tallest Kali idols in the state. Every year, the idol is beautifully adorned with around 12 kg of gold and 200 kg of silver ornaments, making it one of the most spectacular Kali Pujas in West Bengal.

History of Naihati Boro Maa

The Boro Maa Puja began nearly a century ago after Bhavesh Chakraborty dreamt that Goddess Kali instructed him to create a giant idol similar to those seen during the Bhanga Rash festival in Nabadwip. What started as a family worship has now become a grand public celebration attracting devotees from across India and Bangladesh.
